The story behind the music

They Called Him
The Music Man.

From a ninth-grade music room piano to worship songs, biblical books, marriage ministry, children's music, and Christ-centered resources, Joe Soares creates work that points weary hearts back to Jesus Christ.

Born near Seal Beach, California, raised for many years in Hawaii, changed by the grace of God, and still learning to point people to Christ.

The story did not start on a stage.

It started with a young man, a piano, and a love for music that God would one day redirect for His glory.

The Music Man

Joe Soares was born in Seal Beach, California. At thirteen, his family moved to Hawaii, where he lived until he was twenty-five.

Those years shaped much of his early life. Music was always close by. Friends knew him as the one who could often be found at the piano, playing songs, writing music, or simply enjoying the gift God had placed in his life.

Long before the albums, books, Bible studies, and marriage ministry, there was a nickname that stuck: “The Music Man.”

A friend who told the truth

“You need Jesus.”

Joe was not always a Christian. One of his closest friends, David, once told him plainly that he needed Jesus. At the time, Joe was offended.

What sounded offensive then would later become the most important truth he ever heard.

Through the prayers of family, friends, David, and especially his wife Kimberly, God continued working. In God's time, Joe had his own come-to-Jesus moment, went feet first toward Christ, and never looked back.

The same friend who once told him he needed Jesus later stood beside him as the best man at his wedding.

Seven days later

Seven days changed everything.

After returning to California from Hawaii, Joe met Kimberly. They dated for seven days and were married seven days later.

Most people hear that and wonder how such a thing could last.

By the grace of God, Joe and Kimberly have now been married for thirty-eight years. Their marriage has become part of the testimony behind the music, the books, and the ministry.

Kimberly has been his wife, ministry partner, encourager, and faithful companion through seasons of joy, struggle, ministry, sickness, and the daily grace of walking with Christ.

Family

God's faithfulness at home.

Behind the books and songs is a husband, father, and grandfather who knows that ministry starts with the people God has placed closest.

Family has been one of Joe's greatest earthly blessings.

More than music.

Joe's story is not simply about writing songs or publishing books. It is about God's faithfulness through real family life.

His son Brandon has been part of that journey, and Kimberly has stood with him through ministry, family, business, worship, counseling, and seasons that required deep dependence on God.

Those experiences helped shape the message Joe now shares with husbands, wives, families, and hurting hearts: Christ must be the center.

Broadcasting the message

The radio years.

In the 1980s, Joe built a radio station in his own home. Long before websites, streaming platforms, and social media, he was already drawn to music, communication, broadcasting, and reaching people through sound.

That creative thread runs through his life. Music, teaching, recording, publishing, and online ministry are not separate chapters; they are connected parts of one story God has been shaping for decades.

Since 2012

Marriage ministry changed the way he writes.

Since 2012, Joe and Kimberly have served through Marriage Hotline 911. Joe speaks with husbands, while Kimberly speaks with wives.

After thousands of conversations with hurting men and women, Joe became more convinced than ever that broken lives and broken marriages do not need another gimmick. They need the Word of God, repentance, forgiveness, humility, obedience, and surrender to Jesus Christ.

That ministry experience now flows into his books, songs, Bible studies, and resources.

Not another ladder

The ladder was leaning against the wrong wall.

Over the years, thousands of conversations with hurting husbands have taught Joe something important. Many people spend their lives climbing ladders.

One ladder promises happiness. Another promises success. Another promises healing. Another promises a better marriage. Another promises peace.

People climb higher and higher searching for answers, only to discover that the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall.

Joe has watched men chase psychology, self-help, pleasure, success, relationships, addictions, and countless other substitutes, hoping to find what only Christ can provide.

That is one reason he writes books, records music, teaches Scripture, and ministers to marriages.

Not to point people to another ladder. Not to point people to another system. Not to point people to himself.

The answer is not found in climbing higher. The answer is found at the foot of the cross.

Grace and mercy

Cancer could not stop God's plan.

In 2023, Joe was diagnosed with male breast cancer. Few men ever expect to hear those words.

The journey through treatment reminded him that life is fragile, time is a gift, and every day belongs to God.

Joe is alive today only because of God's grace and mercy. That reality has added urgency and gratitude to his music, books, teaching, and ministry.

Every song, every book, every conversation, and every Bible study now carries a deeper awareness: use the time God gives to point people back to Christ.

The mission

Pointing weary hearts back to Jesus.

Whether through worship music, children's songs, books, Bible studies, marriage ministry, or bilingual projects, Joe's desire is simple: to point weary hearts back to Jesus Christ.

After all these years, he has learned that the answer is not found in another ladder, another system, or another promise of self-improvement.

The answer is Jesus Christ, and the truth of God's Word still changes lives.
